„On May 7th there was another Caroussel, after which a Concert was held at the Buda Theatrum during which a famous musician called Beethoven was skillfully playing the Forte Piano attracting everyone’s kind attention” – wrote the Magyar Kurir on May 8th of 1800 about the then thirty-year-old, but already renowned master whose invitation was recommended by Ferenc Brunszvik.

This concert was Beethoven’s first, and, at the same time, last performance in Pest-Buda commemorated the 19th time this year by the one-week classical music festival called Beethoven in Buda. Within the framework of this festival Balázs Fülei will give a chamber music concert on period instruments with two musicians of the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Eszter Lesták-Bedő and Zoltán Szőke in the Hall of the Buda Castle Municipality on May 5th.

Following the Buda Festival, those interested will have the opportunity to get closer to Beethoven again, at the Fonó Music Hall on May 28th. At the concert by the Auer Trio the piece known as the Archduke Trio will also be played, dedicated by Beethoven to his student, Archduke Rudolph, a gifted piano player. The first public performance was given on April 11th of 1814 in the elegant Viennese hotel ’To the Roman Emperor’ where the famous Schuppanzigh Quartet was often giving concerts. Ignaz Schuppanzigh, Beethoven’s violin teacher, Joseph Linke, the cellist and the composer himself were introducing the piece for the audience. However, due to his deteriorating hearing, it was Beethoven’s last public performance as a pianist.
